Chapter 20 - The Unbreakable Bond

The lights in the bunker flickered once and died, plunging Mateo and Rosa into absolute darkness, save for the sickly green glow of the terminal screen.
"They locked us in," Rosa said, her voice steady despite the grave peril, her hand brushing against Mateo's shoulder in the dark. "Just like your father did to your mother, and just like your mother did to Julian."
Mateo stood in the center of the subterranean room, breathing heavily. For a split second, the familiar wave of panic and rage threatened to consume him—the exact same fury that had driven him to shatter the million-dollar teacup years ago.
He closed his eyes. He remembered the sound of that porcelain crashing against the marble bust of Venus. He remembered the feeling of breaking his own prison.
"They think they've won," Mateo said quietly, a cold, resolute calm washing over him. He walked slowly toward the active computer terminal, ignoring the flashing warning lights. "They forgot one crucial detail."
"What's that?" Rosa asked, stepping up beside him.
"Arthur Vance taught me how to build an empire on secrets," Mateo said, typing a rapid sequence of master override commands into the terminal—a backdoor bypass code Julian had accidentally left exposed in the live data stream. "And my mother taught me how to survive them. But neither of them ever learned how to stop a dead man's switch."
With a firm, decisive stroke, Mateo hit Enter.

Across the city, every screen in the medical facility, every news broadcast, and every federal database simultaneously flashed with an automated, inescapable data packet containing the full confession, financial audit, and live GPS coordinates of Julian and Elena Vance's conspiracy.
The trap had sprung—not on them, but on the architects of the darkness. And as the distant wail of federal sirens grew deafeningly loud overhead, Mateo smiled in the dark, knowing the cycle of the Vance family secrets was finally, permanently shattered for good.
