Chapter 8 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the million-dollar mansion stood entirely abandoned, its grand hallways draped in dust sheets and police tape, slated for demolition to make way for a public memorial park dedicated to the victims of Arthur Vance’s crimes.

The international headlines had dominated the news for weeks: The Vance Empire Collapses: Inside the House of Horrors. Billions of dollars in embezzled funds were recovered and redistributed to the families of those Arthur had ruined, including the descendants of Dr. Alistair and the wrongfully imprisoned whistleblowers.

In a quiet, sunlit café overlooking the ocean miles away from the estate, Mateo sat at a small wooden table. He held a simple, plain ceramic mug in his hands—no gold leaf, no fine porcelain, completely ordinary and unbreakable.

Rosa sat across from him, sipping her tea with a quiet, peaceful smile.

"The foundation trust is officially set up," Rosa said, sliding a legal document across the table. "Everything your father stole has been returned where it belongs. The estate is gone, Mateo. You can finally start over."

Mateo looked out at the vast, sparkling ocean. The haunting memories of the marble corridors, the terrifying echoes of his father’s voice, and the weight of the dark secrets still lingered in the corners of his mind, but the suffocating chains were gone.

He took a slow sip of his tea, smiled back at Rosa, and for the first time in his life, felt the true warmth of the morning sun.
