Chapter 7 - Ashes of the Empire

The smoke cleared slowly, leaving the scent of cordite and copper hanging heavy in the air.
Arthur Vance collapsed onto the pristine marble floor, the silver revolver slipping from his limp fingers and clattering against the shattered porcelain of the floral teacup. The man who had terrorized an estate, stolen lives, and ruled with an iron fist was gone in an instant.
Mateo stood frozen, staring at the motionless body of his father. The rage, the confusion, the terror—everything dissolved into a hollow, numb silence. He fell to his knees beside the ledger his mother had written, his hands stained with the dust of a ruined legacy.
Heavy blows echoed against the front doors as federal agents and local police began cutting through the steel shutters with plasma torches. Sparks showered through the gaps, illuminating the dark, dramatic scene like a horrific fireworks display.
Rosa knelt beside Mateo, placing a gentle, steady hand on his shaking shoulder. "It's over, Mateo. You're finally free."

"I broke the teacup," Mateo whispered, his voice cracking as tears finally spilled over his cheeks. "That's how all of this started."
"No, child," Rosa corrected softly, looking up as the heavy front doors finally burst inward, flooding the grand hall with blinding white light and shouting officers. "You didn't break a teacup. You shattered a prison."
