Chapter 21 - The Final Collapse

The sirens pierced the night air with an urgency that shook the very ground above the subterranean bunker. Red and blue strobes painted the botanical garden in frantic hues of alarm as federal tactical units swarmed the pathways, their heavy boots pounding against the stone walkways where tourists had strolled just hours before.
Inside the dark, damp chamber, the computer terminal blinked green, its screen flashing a single word across the monitor: UPLOAD COMPLETE.
"They're coming," Rosa said, keeping her eyes fixed on the heavy iron hatch above.
A muffled series of shouts echoed from the surface, followed by the deafening roar of a hydraulic plasma torch cutting through the reinforced steel bolts of the trapdoor. Sparks rained down like a shower of golden stars, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the stale air. With a heavy, thunderous thud, the hatch was blown wide open, flooding the underground bunker with blinding white light and fresh, cool night air.
"Federal agents! Stay where you are!" a voice boomed from above, accompanied by the clatter of tactical gear and drawn weapons.
Mateo blinked against the harsh glare, raising a hand to shield his eyes. As he looked up, he saw the familiar face of Special Agent Vance (no relation) peering down the ladder, his expression a mix of professional shock and profound relief.

"Mateo! Rosa! Are you alright down there?" the agent called out, tossing a portable tactical ladder down into the pit.
"We're fine," Mateo replied steadily, his voice carrying an unshakeable strength that surprised even himself. He grabbed the rungs and looked back at Rosa, nodding. "Let's go up. It's time to end this once and for all."
