Chapter 1 - The Trap Door Closes

The cool air of the Manhattan apartment felt like a sanctuary after the claustrophobic air of JFK. I dropped my single carry-on bag by the entryway, walked straight to my home office, and booted up the secure terminal. On the monitor, the global tracking interface glowed in soft green hues. Flight 408 to Maui was officially airborne, carrying two unsuspecting passengers hurtling thousands of feet above the earth with no internet access, no way to make phone calls, and no escape.
Alexander thought he was the architect of this grand deception. For months, he had played the devoted fiancé while secretly plotting with Khloe to systematically drain my family’s trust fund, forge my signature on corporate asset transfers, and—if my private investigator’s encrypted dossier was to be believed—frame me for financial embezzlement to have me quietly institutionalized or locked away in a remote overseas facility once the honeymoon dust settled. They had even hired a specialized logistics team in Maui to intercept me the moment we landed.
Instead, they were the ones walking directly into a ghost town.
I pulled up the administrative dashboard for Alexander’s private holding company, Vanguard Capital. With three precise keystrokes, I executed Phase One of the contingency protocol. Every single corporate account, personal credit line, and hidden offshore shell company linked to his Social Security number was instantly frozen under a federal security flag for suspected corporate espionage and identity fraud.
My phone buzzed softly on the mahogany desk. It was Marcus, my private investigator.

"The birds are in the air, Sophia," Marcus’s gravelly voice came through the speaker. "And your backup team in Honolulu just confirmed that the local goons Alexander hired to 'greet' you at the baggage claim are currently wondering why nobody is walking off that plane."
A cold, exhilarating thrill washed over me. "Let them wait, Marcus. The real show doesn't start until they touch down."
