Chapter 24 - The Upstate Ambush

The midnight air in upstate New York was biting and damp, smelling of wet pine and distant asphalt. Deep within a dense forest clearing stood the abandoned federal storage facility—a concrete monolith wrapped in rusted chain-link fences and overgrown brush.
Inside the cavernous, unlit interior of the warehouse, a single laptop screen cast a harsh blue glow across Victor Vance’s hardened face. Two armed syndicate enforcers stood guard near the rusted steel roll-up door, their weapons drawn and ready.
"The files are real, boss," one of the enforcers whispered, tapping the keyboard of the stolen terminal. "The access keys match the corporate structure of Aegis Global. The main backup server is located right here in this sector."
Victor narrowed his eyes, a cruel, satisfied grin spreading across his lips. "Sophia thought she could outsmart us. She thought locking Alexander away would end the bloodline of our operation. Once we secure these files, we leverage them to drain her accounts and tear her empire apart from the inside."
He reached out to download the final archive package.
Suddenly, the heavy steel doors of the warehouse blew inward with a deafening roar of flash-bang grenades. Blinding white light filled the room, accompanied by a thunderous shockwave of sound that shattered the concrete dust into the air.
"Federal agents! Down on the ground! Do it now!" a chorus of amplified voices echoed through the chaos.
Before Victor and his men could even raise their weapons, heavily armored tactical teams swarmed through the breach from every angle. Red laser sights painted their chests.

"Don't move! Hands behind your back!" a marshal shouted, slamming Victor face-first onto the dusty concrete floor and snapping heavy steel cuffs around his wrists.
The ambush was over in less than thirty seconds. Not a single shot fired by the syndicate. Aegis Global's trap had snapped shut with absolute, flawless precision.
