Spring rolled into early summer across Manhattan, bathing the city in vibrant sunlight and warm, energetic breezes. In the executive boardroom of Aegis Global, the atmosphere was one of absolute triumph and unyielding focus.

I sat at the head of the conference table, reviewing the final federal forfeiture reports distributed by the Department of Justice. Every single dollar illegally funneled by the syndicate had been officially recovered and redirected into our global philanthropic foundation, creating safe havens and legal defense funds for victims of financial fraud and abuse.

Marcus walked in, carrying a fresh cup of dark roast coffee and placing a sleek tablet in front of me.

"The federal prosecutors just filed the final closing briefs on the syndicate case, Sophia," Marcus reported, a rare, genuine smile breaking across his face. "Victor Vance pled guilty to avoid a life sentence without parole. The entire network is officially dead. Finished. History."

I looked up from the tablet, feeling a profound, unshakeable wave of peace wash over me. The shadows that had lingered at the edge of my life—the threats, the conspiracies, the lingering fear of what Alexander and his associates might try next—were completely eradicated.

"And Alexander?" I asked quietly.

"Completely isolated," Marcus replied. "His prison tier was tightened following the investigation. No outside communications, no visitors, no hope of early release. He’s completely forgotten by the world."

I nodded slowly, taking a sip of my coffee. "Good. Let him live with his silence."

"So," Marcus leaned against the edge of the table, his eyes twinkling with professional amusement. "Now that the dust has finally settled and Aegis Global is undisputed at the top of the financial world... what's next for the CEO?"
