Chapter 16 - The Midnight Raid

The open ocean off the North Atlantic was a churning expanse of black water and white-capped swells. The wind howled across the deck of the Titan Voyager, a massive five-hundred-foot container ship cutting through the heavy fog under the cover of a moonless night.

Inside the captain’s bridge, the crew was a tight-knit circle of mercenaries and syndicate loyalists watching the radar screens with nervous tension.

"We're crossing the territorial demarcation line in twenty minutes," the first mate shouted over the roar of the massive diesel engines, turning to look at the man sitting in the command chair—a sharp-featured, graying man known only as Director K.

Director K lit a thin cigar, exhaling a slow plume of gray smoke toward the overhead vents. "Good. Once we hit international waters, the federal hounds in New York are completely powerless."

Suddenly, the ship's primary navigation console flickered violently. Alarms began to wail across the bridge with a shrill, deafening pitch. Red warning lights flooded the control panels.

"What is that?!" Director K barked, standing up abruptly.

"Sir! The automated registry locks have been overridden!" the communications officer shouted, his fingers flying across the glowing keyboard in absolute panic. "Our maritime insurance policy has just been legally revoked by the parent underwriter—Aegis Global."

"Revoked? That's impossible! That policy is backed by international treaty!"

"It's not a treaty violation, sir," a cold, synthesized voice echoed suddenly through the bridge’s emergency intercom system.

Director K froze. The bridge speakers crackled, and my voice—clear, calm, and unmistakably present—filled the room.

"Under Maritime Code Section 44-B," I continued smoothly through the secure audio link, "operating a vessel under falsified corporate documentation voids all liability coverage instantly, granting the primary stakeholder full legal authority to enact an emergency navigational seizure at sea."

Before Director K could shout an order, the heavy steel doors of the bridge blew inward with a deafening blast of compressed air. Elite maritime tactical intervention teams—hired directly by Aegis Global under emergency corporate mandate—stormed the bridge with precision weapons drawn, securing the crew before they could even reach for their sidearms.

Director K slowly raised his hands, turning around to face the security camera mounted in the corner of the ceiling, where my live video feed was streaming directly from Manhattan.

"You went too far, Sophia," Director K spat, his voice laced with venom.

"I'm just finishing what my husband started," I replied calmly into the microphone, before cutting the feed.
