Following the gala, the McKenzie family returned to the quiet tranquility of the Westchester estate. The heavy iron gates, once symbols of isolation and corporate warfare, now stood wide open, welcoming visiting families and children finding new hope through the foundation's programs.
Late one evening, after the younger children had fallen fast asleep and Elena was busy sketching in her new bedroom study, James and Rachel sat together on the front porch swing.
The autumn breeze rustled the leaves above them, carrying the faint, distant hum of the city.
Rachel pulled a warm cashmere blanket over her shoulders, looking up at the glittering stars. "Do you ever think about what would have happened if Chloe hadn't found that paper behind the phone?"
James wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. "I don't have to think about it, Rachel. Because she did."
