Chapter 8 - THE MIDNIGHT RESCUE IN ALBANY

The St. Jude Private Foster Facility in Albany, New York, looked more like an abandoned industrial fortress than a home for children. Rain lashed against its iron-barred windows as James’s tactical team swarmed the perimeter, cutting through the electronic gate locks with heavy-duty shears.

Inside the dimly lit corridors, a terrified facility director was frantically shredding documents into an industrial machine when the office door was kicked entirely off its hinges.

James stepped into the room, his presence absolute and terrifying. “Stop right there.”

The director dropped his handful of paper strips, staring wide-eyed at the billionaire tycoon. “You... you have no right! This is a legal transfer! The adoptive parents paid the premium fee!”

“There are no adoptive parents tonight,” James said coldly, walking past him and yanking open the metal filing cabinets lining the wall. He pulled out folder after folder until he found the one marked Noah.

“Where is the boy?” James demanded.

“Room 402. Down the hall,” the director stammered, shrinking back against the desk.

James didn't wait. He sprinted down the sterile, fluorescent-lit hallway, pushing open the heavy metal door of Room 402.

The room was dark, cold, and smelled of antiseptic. A small four-year-old boy sat huddled in the corner of a narrow metal crib, clutching a worn-out blue security blanket, staring wide-eyed at the sudden intrusion.

When the boy looked up, James felt his breath catch in his throat, a heavy lump forming in his chest.

It was like looking at a mirror image of Tyler—the same dark hair, the same delicate features, and those striking amber eyes, looking back at him with absolute, heartbreaking fear.

“Noah?” James whispered, his voice trembling as he knelt down beside the crib.

The boy shrank back, clutching his blanket tighter. “Are you... are you going to take me to another room?”

“No, sweetheart,” James choked out, tears spilling over his eyelashes as he carefully reached into the crib and lifted the little boy into his arms. “I'm your father. And I am taking you home.”
