Chapter 6 - THE GHOST IN THE ARCHIVES

The library went dead silent.
Rachel stared at James, her face draining of all color, her hands shaking violently. “No... no, that’s not true. The doctor told me... he told me my second baby didn't survive the delivery.”
“It was a lie, Rachel,” James said softly, kneeling beside her chair and taking her cold hands in his. “The syndicate falsified the medical records. They stole our son.”
“Who has him?” Rachel sobbed, clutching James’s shoulders. “Where is my baby?”
James stood up, his eyes flashing with absolute, unyielding determination. He looked at Marcus. “Get the tactical unit ready. Pull up every single adoption broker, corrupt judge, and compromised foster facility linked to the McKenzie shipping warehouses over the last decade.”
“Sir, the adoption trail is nearly five years cold,” Marcus warned. “If we go chasing rumors through the underground broker network without concrete coordinates, we could be walking into a trap set by the remaining syndicate loyalists.”
“I don't care if it’s a trap,” James said flatly, pulling his coat back on. “They took eight years of my life with Rachel. They took five years of my son’s life. If anyone stands between me and my family, I will dismantle every brick of this city until I find him.”
Before Marcus could reply, a high-priority alert flashed on the library’s secure terminal.

“Mr. McKenzie!” Logan’s voice echoed over the speakerphone. “We just decrypted a file containing the current whereabouts of the adoption broker who handled the transfer. He’s booked on a private cargo flight leaving from a private airstrip in upstate New York in less than two hours!”
“Send me the coordinates,” James ordered.
