Chapter 3 - THE MILLIONAIRE’S WRATH

James crossed the room in two massive strides, completely ignoring Derek, who was now pinned face-down against the linoleum floor by two tactical guards.

Dropping instantly to his knees, James looked down at eight-year-old Chloe, who was huddled protectively over little Tyler, her small body trembling like a leaf in a storm.

“Chloe,” James breathed, his voice cracking, thick with a wave of raw emotion that shattered his usual corporate composure. “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?”

Chloe stared up at the stranger, blinking through her tears. Up close, she noticed the sharp line of his jaw, the deep amber tone of his eyes—eyes that mirrored her own in a way she couldn't yet comprehend.

“My... my brother,” Chloe choked out, her voice barely a whisper. “He’s so hungry. He hid the milk.”

James’s jaw tightened. He gently placed a hand on Chloe’s shoulder, then looked up at one of his operatives. “Find the formula. Tear this apartment apart until you find it.”

“Already on it, Mr. McKenzie,” the guard responded, kicking open the pantry door and tearing through the upper cabinets. Within seconds, a can of infant formula clattered onto the counter. Another operative quickly produced a sterile bottle of warm water from a tactical thermal pack, mixing it with practiced speed.

James carefully lifted Tyler from Chloe’s arms, holding the infant against his chest with an instinctive, natural grace that stunned him. He handed the warm bottle to the baby, who immediately clamped onto the nipple with desperate, frantic sucks.

Only then did James stand up, turning his attention to Derek Patterson, who was still pinned to the floor, sweating profusely.

“You...” James murmured, his voice dropping an octave into a cold, lethal register. “You starved my son. You abused my daughter.”

“I don’t know who you are!” Derek shrieked, struggling against the heavy combat boots pressing into his spine. “I’m her legal guardian! Her mother gave me permission to—”

“Her mother is Rachel Matthews,” James interrupted, stepping over Derek with utter disgust. He pulled his satellite phone from his pocket. “And you are about to find out what happens when you touch a McKenzie.”
