Chapter 7 - THE UPSTATE AIRSTRIP

The rain was lashing horizontally across the abandoned private airstrip in upstate New York as James’s Maybach fishtailed onto the tarmac, cutting off a sleek white Gulfstream private jet just as its turbines began to whine for takeoff.

Marcus slammed on the brakes, and before the car had even stopped sliding, James flung his door open and stepped out into the freezing downpour.

Three armed private security vehicles swarmed the Gulfstream from all sides, training high-powered tactical spotlights directly onto the aircraft’s cockpit and entry hatch.

The hatch of the jet swung open.

A nervous, middle-aged man in an expensive gray suit—the corrupt adoption broker, Julian Vance—stepped backward out onto the metal stairs, shielding his eyes from the blinding spotlights.

“Step away from the aircraft!” James commanded, his voice carrying over the roar of the jet engines as he marched across the tarmac.

“You can’t do this!” Vance shrieked, holding a locked metal briefcase tightly against his chest. “I am a licensed interstate legal representative! This is an authorized transport!”

“You’re a child trafficker working for a dead tyrant,” James roared, closing the distance instantly.

Marcus and two tactical operatives intercepted Vance, slamming him against the metal stairs and ripping the briefcase from his grip. James unlocked the brass latches with a sharp click and threw the lid open.

Inside lay dozens of classified adoption portfolios, sealed birth certificates, and financial wire receipts stamped with the McKenzie-Patterson logo.

James flipped frantically through the pages until his fingers brushed against a crimson folder labeled: Project Heir-Lock – Twin B.

Inside was a photograph of a four-year-old boy with the exact same striking amber eyes as Tyler, sitting quietly in a private foster care facility in upstate New York under an alias: Noah.

“Where is he?” James demanded, grabbing Vance by the collar of his suit and lifting him off his feet. “Tell me where my son is, or I swear to God I will leave you in a federal prison cell until the end of time!”

Vance gasped for air, pointing a trembling finger toward a folder at the bottom of the case. “St. Jude’s Private Facility... in Albany! The... the final transfer papers are being signed tonight at midnight!”
