Chapter 22 - The Cipher of St. Helena

The digital screen in the subterranean tech bunker glowed with a cascade of cascading green code as Sophia ran the encryption keys extracted from the titanium drive. The Moretti estate's mainframe whirred softly, processing decades of encrypted hospital logs, birth registries, and financial transfers.
"It’s not just a file," Sophia said, her fingers flying across the dual-monitor keyboard with surgical speed. "It’s a live-updating database tied to an autonomous server cluster located somewhere in the neutral zone of San Marino. Every time a Moretti asset moves, this server mirrors the transaction."
Leo stood behind her, his hand resting lightly on the back of her chair. "Can you trace the physical ping?"
"I’m trying, but the firewall is military-grade," Sophia replied, her eyes narrowing as a complex geometric map began to render on the screen. "Look at this architecture. It’s not randomized. It’s structured like a building layout... a hospital wing layout."
The screen zoomed in on an architectural schematic of St. Helena Private Hospital—specifically the underground delivery ward that had been decommissioned twenty-five years ago, right around the time Leo and Julian were born.
"The night we were born," Leo said quietly, the memory of his father’s confessions echoing in his mind, "Valentina didn't just bribe Dr. Alessi to swap one baby. She orchestrated a triple delivery. A triplet."
The air in the bunker seemed to drop ten degrees. Sophia stopped typing, her hands hovering inches above the keys. "A third sibling? If that’s true, and they survived... where have they been for the last eighteen years?"
"Not hidden in a gutter like Julian," Leo murmured, his jaw clenching. "And not locked in a monastery like Valentina. If this server has been running unhindered, whoever holds the third key has had access to every shadow account my father ever built—including the emergency reserves meant to restart the syndicate if the house fell."

Suddenly, the mainframe screen flashed bright crimson. A string of automated text scrolled across the display: ACCESS GRANTED: WELCOME, BROTHER.
Before Sophia could hit the kill switch, the subterranean lights flickered out, plunging the bunker into absolute darkness.
