Chapter 28 - The New Era

Six months later.
The Moretti estate was no longer a fortress defined by paranoia and hidden guns. The iron perimeter gates stood wide open during the daytime, welcoming trade delegates, legal advisors, and international partners who came to do legitimate business with the newly restructured Moretti Global Syndicate.
In the sunlit central courtyard, young Leo—now nearly ten years old—was laughing as he kicked a soccer ball across the green lawn, coached by veteran enforcers who had traded their sidearms for afternoon recreation duty.
Inside the grand dining room, a quiet dinner was underway. Rocco Moretti sat at the end of the long mahogany table, flanked by Elena, watching with quiet, profound satisfaction as the family dynamic settled into a peace he had spent his entire life believing was impossible.
At the head of the table sat Leo and Sophia. They weren't just partners in business anymore; three weeks prior, in a private ceremony overlooking the Mediterranean cliffs, they had formalized their partnership before the law and the family.
"The shipping manifests from the Palermo port just cleared customs," Sophia noted, sliding a clean, unblemished ledger across the table toward her husband. "Zero discrepancies. Every container is accounted for."
Leo signed the document with a sleek silver fountain pen, his wedding band catching the warm light of the chandelier. "The old men in Rome still think we’re going soft, running a syndicate like a legitimate multinational corporation."
"Let them think what they want," Sophia replied, a faint, confident smile touching her lips. "When their supply chains collapse because they don't have our structural security, they’ll come asking us how we built it."
Rocco raised his crystal glass of aged red wine from the end of the table, catching his son’s and daughter-in-law's attention.
"To the architects of the house," Rocco said, his voice deep, steady, and filled with absolute pride.

Leo and Sophia raised their glasses in unison, their eyes locked in an unspoken understanding that spanned all the years, all the blood, and all the secrets that had brought them to this exact moment.
"To the foundation," they answered together.
