Chapter 27 - The Tribunal of Shadows

Three days later, the storm that had battered the Sicilian coast finally cleared, leaving the Mediterranean washed in a brilliant, piercing blue.
Inside the subterranean archive, the titanium drive had been wiped clean, its autonomous server cluster in San Marino permanently severed from the global network by a coordinated cyber-strike executed by Sophia’s engineering team.
Dante Moretti was gone—not dead, but transferred silently under heavy guard to the same remote, unmarked monastery in the mountains of Montenegro where Valentina had spent her final days. No trial, no public scandal, no trace left in the public ledgers. To the world, Dante Moretti had never existed.
Leo sat at the mahogany desk in the private study, reviewing the final structural blueprints of the newly reinforced archive wing. The door opened softly, and Sophia walked in, holding two cups of black coffee. She set one down on the desk before leaning against the edge, looking out at the sunlit vineyard.
"The structural repairs to the west wing are fully certified," Sophia said, her voice carrying a quiet sense of closure. "Even if an earthquake hits magnitude seven, the foundation won't shift an inch."
Leo looked up from the blueprints, his dark eyes softening as he met her gaze. "You’ve spent your whole life building walls to keep enemies out of this house, Sophia."
"Not just keeping enemies out," she corrected gently, taking a sip of her coffee. "Making sure the people inside never have to look over their shoulders again."
Leo stood up, walking around the desk until he stood inches from her. He reached out, his calloused fingers gently brushing against the silver architectural compass pin resting on her lapel.
"My father called me into his study this morning," Leo murmured.
"And?"
"He’s stepping down. Fully. No advisory council, no shadow votes." Leo’s gaze locked onto hers with absolute clarity. "He transferred the primary syndicate holdings and the estate deeds to a new trust. A joint trust."

Sophia blinked, her dark eyes widening slightly. "A joint trust?"
"Registered under two names," Leo said softly. Leo Moretti and Sophia Bellini. "The house belongs to both of us now. Every brick, every tunnel, every ledger."
