Chapter 40 - The Sovereign Foundation

Three weeks later.

The scars of the attack had already been erased. The shattered marble pillars of the grand foyer had been repaired with flawless precision, the crystal chandelier replaced with one even more magnificent, and the reinforced perimeter walls rebuilt with thicker, triple-layered titanium-infused concrete.

The Moretti estate stood prouder, stronger, and more untouchable than ever before.

On a warm, sun-drenched afternoon, Sophia sat at the drafting table in the subterranean archive, reviewing the final structural certifications of the new estate security layout. Beside her, ten-year-old Elena was studying a complex digital schematic of provincial infrastructure security.

Footsteps echoed softly from the archive corridor.

Leo walked in, holding a small, silver velvet box. He set it down gently on the drafting table in front of Sophia.

Sophia looked up, raising an eyebrow. "What’s this?"

"A final architectural review," Leo said, a rare, warm smile softening the hard lines of his face. "The maritime research vessel carrying Dante’s satellite relay was intercepted by coast guard patrols off the coast of Malta this morning. Dante’s network has been permanently purged from the global grid. He has no communications, no allies, and no way out of Montenegro."

Sophia opened the velvet box. Inside rested a newly minted, solid platinum key bearing the unified crest of the Moretti syndicate and the architectural compass of the estate's design guild.

"Your father transferred the final international holdings this morning," Leo murmured, his dark eyes locking onto hers with absolute, unbreakable devotion. "Every ledger, every asset, every secure node across Europe."

Sophia picked up the platinum key, feeling its heavy, reassuring weight in her palm. She looked past Leo toward the open security monitors, where young Elena was laughing with Rocco Moretti in the sunlit courtyard garden outside.

"We don't need ledgers to secure this house, Leo," Sophia said softly, sliding her hand into his warm palm as their fingers intertwined securely. "We built something much stronger than money or guns."

Leo pulled her close, kissing the top of her head as the afternoon sunlight flooded through the reinforced glass windows of the archive room.

"What's that?" he asked quietly.

"An unshakeable foundation," Sophia replied, her voice steady and eternal. "A house built by choice, protected by truth, and standing forever."
