Chapter 10 - The Horizon

Back in Vermont, the golden hour sun dipped below the rugged peaks of the mountain range, casting long, peaceful shadows across the sprawling lawn of Maddie’s estate.

Lily ran across the clover-strewn grass, her silvery laughter echoing in the evening air as she chased a butterfly, her little red boots kicking up tiny puffs of dust.

Maddie stood on the porch, leaning against the wooden railing with a mug of herbal tea in her hand. The wind caught her hair, soft and warm, carrying the scent of pine and wild lilies. She reached down, touching the simple, elegant platinum band she now wore on her right ring finger—not a symbol of bondage or betrayal, but a custom-crafted ring she had designed herself, engraved with the coordinates of the place where her true life had begun.

Clara stepped out onto the porch, handing Maddie a fresh blanket as the evening chill began to settle over the valley.

"She's growing up so fast," Clara murmured, watching Lily chase the butterfly toward the garden.

"She is," Maddie smiled, her eyes shining with a profound, unshakeable peace. "She's growing up knowing that she belongs to a world where she never has to be small, or silent, or afraid."

Maddie took a deep, grounding breath, looking out past the estate toward the endless expanse of the horizon where the sky melted from gold to deep, star-studded indigo. The ghosts of the past were buried deep beneath the snow, and the future—vast, brilliant, and entirely unwritten—lay waiting for her to conquer.

She wasn't running anymore. She had arrived.
