Chapter 29 - The Unwritten Page

Later that evening, after Lily had been safely tucked into her flannel-lined bed with her favorite woolen bear, Maddie sat alone on the wide wooden porch of the estate.

The night sky was an endless canopy of brilliant, diamond-bright stars, undisturbed by city lights or corporate sirens.

She reached down, touching the simple, custom-crafted platinum band on her right ring finger. It no longer represented a chain or a scar; it was a compass—a reminder of the exact coordinates where she had lost a false life and found her true self.

She opened a blank, leather-bound journal resting on her lap, holding a heavy silver pen in her hand. The pages before her were entirely empty, stretching out like an unwritten horizon waiting for ink.

She didn't write about betrayal. She didn't write about corporate boardrooms, federal indictments, or fallen empires.

Instead, she wrote a single sentence at the top of the page:

The world is wide, the air is clean, and we belong to ourselves.

May you like

She capped the pen, closed the journal, and leaned back in her rocking chair, listening to the gentle rustle of the mountain wind through the pines.

She wasn't running anymore. She wasn't hiding. She was simply, perfectly, sovereign.
