Chapter 12 - The Ghost of the PastThe preparation for the dawn demonstration took place underground in Sterling Global’s subterranean test facility. Massive hydraulic lifts, laser-grid sensors, and cooling towers hummed with raw energy.

Little Lilly sat at a small desk in the corner of the control room, doing her school math homework while her father typed rapid lines of code into a master terminal.
Victoria walked over, handing Lilly a fresh juice box before turning her attention to Daniel. "Are you certain this is going to work? If the syndicate traces the signal back to this bunker, they'll target everything—including Lilly."
Daniel didn't stop typing. "They won't target her here. The bunker’s biometric defense grid is tied directly to my retinal scan. Nothing gets through these walls without my authorization."
As if on cue, the main monitoring screen flickered. A secure, encrypted video feed popped up on the monitor. A man’s face appeared—obscured by heavy shadows, but his voice carried a chilling, aristocratic coldness.
"Agent Carter," the voice hissed through the speakers. "We thought you died in the Berlin fallout five years ago. Imagine our surprise when a low-level corporate mechanic in a coastal city turns out to be the man who single-handedly dismantled our European cell."
Daniel stood up slowly, walking right up to the camera lens. His presence filled the room with an intimidating, suffocating pressure.
"You should have stayed in the shadows, Viktor," Daniel replied, his voice dropping into a low, deadly register. "Coming after my daughter was your final mistake."

"Is it?" Viktor laughed coldly. "Check your perimeter sensors, Carter. You might find that your little bunker isn't as secure as you think."
Hook: The main power grid in the bunker suddenly died. Red emergency strobes flashed, and the external blast doors began to groan under the weight of high-explosive charges being planted outside.
