Chapter 4 - The Predator and the FatherThe breath rushed out of Daniel’s lungs, but the shock lasted only a fraction of a second. Replaced by a terrifying, primal fury, his eyes turned ice-cold.

"You shouldn't have brought her into this," Daniel whispered. His voice didn't sound like a mechanic anymore; it sounded like a ghost released from hell.
The lead intruder laughed, aiming his rifle squarely at Daniel’s chest. "Sit down, grease-monkey, or you'll—"
He never finished the sentence. In a blur of motion that defied human reaction time, Daniel grabbed the heavy, solid-silver gravy boat from the table and hurled it with blinding velocity. It slammed directly into the intruder's wrist, snapping the bone with a sickening crack and sending the rifle clattering to the floor.
Before the other two guards could raise their weapons, Daniel vaulted across the mahogany dining table, kicking the second operative square in the chest with enough force to shatter the antique display cabinet behind him.
The third guard tried to fire, but Victoria—moving with lethal precision—swept his legs out from under him with a brutal martial arts kick, sending him crashing hard onto the marble floor where Daniel pinned him instantly with a knee to his throat.
Within five seconds, all three heavily armed operatives were neutralized.
Eleanor stood frozen, clutching her chest, staring at Daniel as he casually picked up the dropped tablet showing Lilly’s bedroom. The feed was still live. Lilly was sleeping peacefully in her bed, completely unaware that a mercenary had just been standing outside her window.
Daniel typed a rapid command into the tablet, executing a remote security lockdown on his home. The feed flickered, showing the mercenary outside Lilly's house suddenly surrounded by local neighborhood automated defense turrets that Daniel had custom-built.
"Target neutralized at secondary location," a computerized voice chimed from the tablet.

Victoria stared at Daniel, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "Who... what are you, Daniel?"
Hook: Daniel looked down at his oil-stained hands, then at Victoria. "I used to run BlackOps cyber-defense for the Pentagon. And whoever sent these men just made the biggest mistake of their lives."
