Chapter 9 - The UltimatumThree months flew by like a storm. Sterling Global was thriving under a restructured executive board, and Daniel had officially accepted a consulting position as head of strategic defense innovation—though he still insisted on keeping his old toolbox in the corporate basement just for fun.

The relationship between Daniel and Victoria had blossomed from a midnight rescue into a powerful, unbreakable bond that had all of high society talking. But corporate enemies don't stay dead for long.
Late one evening in Victoria’s private office, a high-priority encrypted dossier flashed on her desktop terminal. It wasn't from Apex Corp. It was from an anonymous overseas IP address.
Victoria opened the file, and her blood ran ice cold.
It was a classified intelligence brief detailing Daniel’s past—not just his MIT credentials, but his true identity as the legendary defense contractor known globally as Project Phoenix, a man whose sovereign immunity had been revoked by international intelligence agencies two years ago. And attached to the dossier was a single typed note:
"Tell the mechanic his time is up. We are coming for the girl."
Before Victoria could pick up her phone, the office lights flickered and died. The emergency backup generators clicked on, bathing the penthouse in an eerie red glow.
The heavy security doors of the executive suite hissed shut and locked automatically from the outside. The building was in total lockdown.

Victoria sprinted to the reinforced glass window just in time to see three black armored SUVs screech to a halt in the courtyard below. Heavily armed mercenaries wearing night-vision goggles swarmed the lobby entrances.
Hook: The office intercom hissed to life, broadcasting a cold, distorted voice straight into the room: "Victoria Sterling. Hand over Daniel Carter, or watch your company—and everyone inside it—burn to the ground."
