Chapter 8 - Dinner at the Mansion (Revisited)Forty-eight hours later, the rain was falling again over the Sterling estate. But this time, the atmosphere inside was warm, bright, and filled with the sound of genuine laughter.

In the dining room, little Lilly Carter—complete with her signature pink backpack resting on a chair—was happily devouring chocolate cake while Eleanor Sterling watched with a soft, affectionate smile that nobody at Sterling Global had ever witnessed.
"So, Lilly, your father tells me you're the boss of your house," Eleanor said, handing the little girl a glass of milk.
"Oh, absolutely," Lilly chirped brightly, swinging her legs. "Dad tries to fix things, but he forgets to eat lunch unless I remind him. And he’s terrible at matching my hair ribbons!"
Victoria sat across the table, watching Daniel lean against the kitchen counter with a warm, relaxed smile. The harsh, guarded armor he usually wore around corporate elites had completely melted away in the presence of his daughter.
"You played a dangerous game, Daniel," Victoria said softly, walking over to him with a glass of sparkling water. "Buying up the debt notes, infiltrating the motor pool... you risked everything just to expose Marcus."
Daniel turned to her, his blue eyes catching the warm light of the chandelier. "Marcus was bleeding your company dry, and he threatened my daughter. Protecting what matters isn't a game, Victoria."
"And what about your career as a tech mogul and defense architect?" Victoria asked, her voice dropping lower. "Why hide as a mechanic in my company?"
"Because after my wife passed away, I wanted a quiet life where I could actually watch my daughter grow up," Daniel answered honestly. "No boardrooms. No weaponized algorithms. Just grease, engines, and time with Lilly."

Victoria felt a deep, overwhelming wave of admiration—and something much deeper—swell inside her chest.
Hook: "Well," Victoria smiled, her hand brushing lightly against his arm. "If you're staying in the neighborhood, I happen to know a CEO who needs a permanent head of security... and maybe a partner."
