The executive boardroom on the top floor of the Sterling Tower was bathed in cold, blue moonlight. The ten highest-ranking board members sat in tense silence around the massive obsidian table, whispering nervously among themselves.
The heavy mahogany doors swung open with a loud, echoey bang.
Arthur Sterling strode into the room, his posture tall and commanding, his eyes blazing with absolute authority. Behind him walked Mia, dressed in a sharp tactical suit, carrying a heavy steel briefcase.
"What is the meaning of this, Arthur?" demanded Richard Vance, the senior vice president and longest-serving member of the board. "Calling a mandatory emergency meeting at two in the morning? We have international stock markets opening in hours!"
Arthur didn't answer. He walked straight to the head of the table, sat down, and folded his hands.

Mia stepped forward, placed the briefcase squarely in the center of the obsidian table, and popped the latches with a sharp clack. She pulled out ten individual manila folders and slammed one down in front of each board member.
"Take a look inside," Mia said, her voice cutting through the silent room like a razor. "Every single document you need to understand why your corporate empire is about to crash down around you."
