The digital numbers ticked down relentlessly. The air inside the bunker began to thin as the ventilation system reversed, sucking out the remaining oxygen.

"Come on, come on..." Mia whispered, overriding the final mainframe security gate.

With a thunderous pneumatic hiss, the massive steel exit door sprang open just an inch. Without hesitation, Arthur and Mia threw their shoulders against the heavy metal, shoving it wide open and tumbling out onto the desert sand just as the interior mechanism sealed shut with a deafening crash, locking the gold safely inside forever.

They lay on the cool desert earth, breathing heavily, looking up at the starry night sky.
