Under the harsh fluorescent lights of the federal field office holding cells, Eleanor sat with her head in her hands, her immaculate makeup smeared across her face.
The heavy metal door clicked open, and Mia walked in, tossing a thick manila folder onto the stainless-steel table.
"The digital forensics team cracked your encrypted drives, Eleanor. Every bank transfer, every communication with Julian, every offshore account—it's all there. You're looking at a minimum of twenty-five years behind bars with no possibility of parole," Mia stated coldly, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.
Eleanor slowly lifted her head. Instead of the frantic terror from earlier, her lips curved into a bitter, chilling grin. She let out a dry, hacking laugh.
"You think you’ve won, don't you, little girl? You think saving your precious surrogate father makes you a hero?" Eleanor sneered, her eyes locking onto Mia with pure malice.
"Save your breath for the judge," Mia replied flatly.

"Ask Arthur about the fire," Eleanor whispered, leaning forward into the light. "Ask him what really happened to his first wife thirty-five years ago. Ask him whose signature is really on the insurance policy that funded Sterling Global Enterprises in the first place. He’s no saint, agent. He’s a monster in a custom-tailored suit."
Mia’s eyes narrowed. She didn't flinch, but a cold chill ran down her spine. What was Eleanor hiding now?
