Before Arthur could answer, the secure communication radio clipped to Mia’s tactical vest crackled to life with ear-piercing static and frantic shouting.
"Agent Vance! Agent Vance, respond! Emergency! The prison transport carrying Julian Vance was ambushed five minutes ago on Route 9! He's off the grid and heading back toward the Sterling estate! Repeat, he is armed and dangerous—"
The radio abruptly cut out with a burst of high-pitched feedback.
At that exact second, the overhead lights in the mansion flickered violently and went completely black. The emergency backup generator whirred to life, bathing the study in an eerie, dim red glow.
Downstairs in the grand foyer, the sound of heavy glass shattering echoed through the air. A thick, acrid smell of gasoline drifted up the spiral staircase.
"He's here," Arthur said, his eyes hardening with sudden resolve. He reached into his desk drawer and pulled out an old-fashioned, polished revolver. "He's not going to finish what he started thirty-five years ago."
"Put that down, Dad," Mia said, her voice instantly shifting from federal agent to daughter, a fierce, unbreakable determination in her eyes. She drew her service weapon, checking the magazine with a sharp clack. "This family has shed enough blood. Let's finish this together."

They moved out of the study side-by-side, stepping onto the grand balcony overlooking the foyer. Below them, standing amidst broken glass and a growing puddle of fuel, was Julian Vance. His handcuffs hung loosely from one wrist, and in his other hand, he held a heavy military flare, its tip glowing with a ferocious, blinding white-hot fire.
"Arthur! Come on down and face your maker!" Julian screamed maniacally, his clothes torn, his face stained with soot and rage. "If I can't have this empire, nobody will! We all burn together!"
