The Tucson federal courthouse was packed to capacity as the high-profile medical fraud trial commenced. Michelle sat at the defendant's table, her head bowed low beneath a cheap woolen scarf, trying desperately to shield her face from the flashing cameras of investigative journalists.
The prosecution presented an airtight case: unauthorized retrieval and usage of frozen genetic material, conspiracy to commit identity fraud, and deliberate falsification of birth records to secure inheritance rights under false pretenses.
The presiding judge looked down from the bench with severe, unwavering eyes.
