Chapter 5 - The Web of Lies Exposed

Evelyn walked slowly toward Victoria, her expression a complex mixture of humiliation, gratitude, and deep regret. The proud matriarch of the Lawson family looked smaller than she had ever appeared, her shoulders weighed down by the cascading scandals unfolding in her home.
"Victoria," Evelyn began, her voice cracking slightly. "I... I owe you an apology. For years, I listened to Christopher paint you as cold, unfeeling, and incapable of warmth. I blamed you for our lack of grandchildren."
"You don't need to apologize to me, Evelyn," Victoria said softly, her tone devoid of malice, which somehow made it more devastating. "You just needed to see the truth of the people you invited into your inner circle."
Christopher dropped the baby carrier containing the little boy onto a velvet settee, entirely ignoring the infant's startled cry. He rushed toward Victoria, his hands clenched into fists, the veneer of his arrogance completely shattered.
"You can't do this!" Christopher shouted, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. "I built Vextor! I am a Lawson! You’re just a parasite trying to destroy everything I—"
Slap.
The sharp sound of flesh hitting flesh silenced him instantly. It wasn't Victoria who struck him, but Evelyn. Her hand remained raised, her eyes blazing with a fury that cowed even her grown son.
"Do not ever raise your voice in this house again," Evelyn hissed, her entire body trembling. "You brought a fraud into my family. You fathered—or tried to father—children through lies, deceit, and betrayal of your own blood. You are a disgrace to the Lawson name, Christopher. And as of this moment, you are cut off from every trust fund, property, and asset bearing our family name."
Christopher staggered back, clutching his cheek. He looked around the room, meeting the averted, disgusted gazes of his cousins and aunts. No one stepped forward to comfort him. He was completely, utterly alone.

"And as for you, Michelle," Victoria added, turning her cold gaze toward her former best friend, who was now desperately trying to soothe the crying babies. "You might want to call a lawyer. The fertility clinic in Tucson has already filed criminal charges for medical identity fraud and unauthorized genetic substitution. The federal investigators will be here to speak with you within the hour."
Michelle let out a shrill scream of panic, grabbing her purse and fleeing out the front doors into the Arizona heat, leaving the twins behind in the foyer.
