She stood on the balcony of her newly purchased coastal villa in La Jolla, the cool ocean breeze catching her hair. She held a glass of crisp white wine, watching the waves crash against the cliffs below.
A gentle knock sounded at the balcony doors. A man stepped out, holding two steaming cups of coffee and smiling warmly. It was David Vance, her new chief legal counsel and partner, a man who respected her brilliance, matched her ambition, and loved her without pretense or condition.
"Thinking about the past?" David asked gently, handing her a cup.
