Chapter 8 - A New Horizon

The sun dipped below the Pacific horizon, casting a warm golden glow across Victoria’s office. After Evelyn left, Victoria stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, watching the distant lights of the city flicker to life.
For the first time in her adult life, the weight of expectations had completely vanished. There were no ledgers to fix for an ungrateful husband, no corporate fires to put out in secret, and no false narratives to maintain. The betrayal that had threatened to crush her had instead become the catalyst for her absolute liberation.
Her phone chimed on the desk. She picked it up, expecting another corporate briefing or legal update. Instead, it was a message from an unknown number, accompanied by a single photograph.
It was a picture of the Phoenix estate’s gardens, now cleared of all the dead winter foliage, bursting with bright spring tulips. Beneath it was a short text from Evelyn: “The soil was bad for years. But I finally planted something new.”

Victoria smiled, a genuine, radiant expression that reached her eyes. She locked her phone, set it down on the desk, and turned back to her spreadsheets—not as a weapon of defense, nor as a tool of survival, but as the blueprint of her own independent empire.
The past was buried. The wreckage was cleared. And her story was finally, truly hers to write.
