Chapter 7 - The Inheritance of Truth

Three months later, the high-rise offices of Vextor Dynamics—now officially rebranded under its original founding title—bustled with renewed energy. Victoria sat in the corner office overlooking the sweeping skyline of San Diego, reviewing the final restructuring reports.
The transition had been smooth, swift, and absolute. The federal audit had dismantled Christopher’s network of shell companies, resulting in his indictment on charges of corporate fraud and financial manipulation. Michelle, facing prosecution for medical identity fraud and conspiracy, had fled the state, leaving the twins temporarily under the care of state child services before Evelyn Lawson legally intervened.
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts. The door opened, and Evelyn stepped into the office. She looked older, her hair styled neatly, carrying herself with a quiet, humbled dignity.
"Victoria," Evelyn said softly. "Do you have a moment?"
"Of course, Evelyn. Please, sit down," Victoria replied, gesturing to the sleek leather chair opposite her desk.
Evelyn seated herself, placing a heavy manila folder on the glass surface. "I wanted to bring this to you personally. It’s the finalized legal transfer of the Phoenix estate's trust."
Victoria looked at the folder, hesitating. "Evelyn, we discussed this. The estate belongs to the Lawson family line. Even with Christopher out of the picture—"
"Julian has formally signed away any claim to the property," Evelyn interrupted, her voice firm. "He contacted me from abroad. He was horrified by what Michelle and Christopher orchestrated using his samples, and he wants nothing to do with the Lawson name or its tainted assets. He has agreed to a closed adoption process for the twins, ensuring they are placed in a secure, loving home far away from this toxic legacy."
Evelyn paused, reaching across the desk to gently touch Victoria’s hand.

"And as for me," Evelyn continued, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, "I spent my entire life protecting a name that was built on pride, deception, and the illusion of perfection. You were the only genuine thing Christopher ever brought into this family, Victoria. And I drove you away."
"You were protecting what you thought was your legacy," Victoria said gently, her voice softening. "I don't hold any anger toward you, Evelyn. Only relief that the truth finally came to light."
