Chapter 15 - The Unseen Architect

Weeks after the trial concluded, Victoria received a thick manila envelope delivered directly to her private residence in La Jolla. There was no return address, but the postal stamp indicated it originated from an overseas mail-sorting facility in Zurich, Switzerland.

Inside was a single handwritten letter on heavy, cream-colored parchment paper.

Victoria,

I never got the chance to apologize to you face-to-face before I vanished from the wreckage my family created. What Christopher and Michelle did was an abomination, and my own inadvertent involvement in their scheme is something I will carry for the rest of my life. You saved my family’s legacy from utter destruction, even when we deserved to burn. I have permanently signed away all remaining rights to any Lawson assets, leaving everything in your capable hands.

May you like

— Julian Lawson

Victoria stared at the letter for a long moment. She didn't feel anger, nor did she feel pity. She simply folded the paper neatly, placed it back into the envelope, and slid it into her home safe alongside her old Stanford diplomas and corporate charters. The Lawson name was finally, completely dead to the world—and she had outlived every shadow it cast.
