The London branch of Vanguard Global opened in a historic Victorian-era building that had been meticulously modernized into a sleek sanctuary of steel and glass. Victoria stood in her new executive office, tracing her fingers along the mahogany bookshelf that lined the wall. Amidst heavy volumes of international corporate law and economic strategy, she kept a single, unassuming leather-bound journal—the very book where she had mapped out every financial transfer, every discrepancy, and every strategic move during the darkest days of her marriage.
Her assistant, a sharp young graduate named Chloe, knocked softly before stepping inside with a tablet.
"The UK financial oversight committee is here for the initial compliance review," Chloe reported smoothly. "They’ve noted that our audit scores are among the highest in European market history."
