Chapter 3 - The Unraveling

"Julian?" Christopher laughed, though it sounded hysterical. "Julian has been in Europe for years! What does my brother have to do with this?"

"Ask your girlfriend," Evelyn said, turning her piercing gaze back to Michelle. "Ask her whose name is on the secondary donor registry at the Tucson Reproductive Center. Ask her whose genetic material was used when your own sluggish sperm count—which you so conveniently blamed entirely on Victoria—failed to produce a viable embryo during your secret weekend getaways behind your wife's back."

The silence in the room became absolute. The aunts and cousins began whispering among themselves, casting shocked, sideways glances at Christopher and Michelle.

Michelle burst into tears, her composure completely shattering. "I had to! You don't understand!" she sobbed, dropping the pink-wrapped baby carrier into a nearby armchair as her hands shook uncontrollably. "Christopher couldn't get me pregnant! We tried for months after we started our affair, and nothing happened! The doctors said his count was too low, just like it was with Victoria! But we wanted a family, we wanted Vextor Dynamics, we wanted everything to look legitimate—"

"So you used Julian’s frozen samples from his research days at the clinic?" Evelyn finished, her voice shaking with rage. "You conceived children with my youngest son—my fugitive, disgraced son—and passed them off as Christopher’s legitimate heirs to take over the Lawson estate?"

"They are Lawsons!" Michelle screamed defensively, abandoning all pretense. "They carry Lawson blood! What difference does it make which brother’s DNA created them?"

Christopher stared at Michelle as if seeing a demon for the first time. The foundation of his entire existence—his stolen company, his smug betrayal of Victoria, his twisted pride in having a "real family"—crumbled into dust in a matter of seconds. He looked at the baby boy in his arms, the infant who bore the unmistakable stamp of the brother he despised.

"You lied to me," Christopher whispered, his voice cracking. "Every single day. You told me they were mine."

"You were so desperate to prove Victoria was the broken one that you never even asked for a paternity test!" Michelle shouted back, hysterical. "You wanted to believe you were the alpha, Christopher! You swallowed the lie because your ego couldn't handle the truth!"

Before Christopher could process the blow, his phone buzzed violently in his pocket. He pulled it out with trembling fingers. It was an urgent notification from Vextor Dynamics’ chief legal counsel.
