Chapter 17 - THE NEW HORIZON

Two months later, the transformation of the Vance-Evelyn Foundation was officially complete.
The grand opening ceremony drew hundreds of community leaders, journalists, and families who had previously slipped through the cracks of the social welfare system. The estate no longer felt like a fortress designed to keep the world out; its sweeping iron gates stood wide open, welcoming in anyone who needed refuge, support, and a fresh start.
On the sunlit front lawn, under a canopy of autumn leaves, a small, elegant white altar had been erected.
The guests were seated in rows of white folding chairs. At the front stood Viktor, proudly serving as best man, while five-year-old twins Leo and Liam—dressed in matching miniature navy-blue suits—fidgeted excitedly, holding small velvet ring boxes in their tiny hands.
The string quartet struck up a soft, timeless melody.
Evelyn walked down the stone pathway, escorted by a local community center director who had helped her survive her darkest years in exile. She wore a simple, breathtaking ivory dress that caught the morning sunlight, her face radiant, her eyes locked entirely on Marcus.
Marcus stood at the altar, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, his heart hammering against his ribs not with anxiety, but with an overwhelming, profound peace. All the pain, all the corporate betrayals, all the years of searching and longing—it had all led to this exact moment.
Evelyn reached the altar, and Marcus gently took her hands in his. They were warm, steady, and real.
"I never thought I'd get to say this," Marcus whispered, a smile breaking across his face. "You look stunning."
"You clean up pretty well yourself, Mr. Vance," Evelyn whispered back, her eyes sparkling with unshed tears of joy.
The officiant smiled, stepping forward to begin the ceremony, but before he could speak, little Liam tugged urgently on Marcus’s trouser leg.
"Daddy, can we eat the cake now?" Liam asked loudly, his innocent voice carrying across the entire silent gathering.
May you like
A warm, rolling wave of laughter erupted from the seated guests. Marcus laughed out loud, scooping Liam up into one arm while holding Evelyn’s hand with the other.
"Just a few more minutes, buddy," Marcus smiled, looking down at his son, and then across at Evelyn. "Just a few more minutes."
