Chapter 30 - THE FINAL HORIZON

The sun rose over Chicago on a brilliant summer morning in 2032, painting the skyline in brilliant strokes of gold and amber.

Marcus stepped out onto the front veranda of the estate, breathing in the fresh, clean morning air. The heavy iron gates at the end of the driveway stood wide open, welcoming the first wave of morning visitors, students, and volunteers arriving for the day’s activities.

From behind him, the sliding glass door opened softly, and Evelyn stepped out, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind and resting her chin against his shoulder. A moment later, two pairs of rapid footsteps thudded across the wooden floor as Leo and Liam burst onto the veranda, arguing playfully over who got the last pancake.

Marcus turned around, scooping both boys into a sweeping embrace while pulling Evelyn tightly against them all.

He looked out past the wide green lawn, past the open gates, and toward the endless horizon where the city met the sky. The corporate titans were gone. The dynasties of lies had turned to ash.
