Chapter 20 - THE FINAL LEGACY

Later that afternoon, Marcus walked through the restored gardens behind the estate, the crisp autumn wind rustling the oak trees above.

Evelyn walked beside him, holding his hand, their fingers tightly intertwined. In the distance, Leo and Liam could be heard arguing good-naturedly over who got to score the next goal on the lawn soccer pitch.

Marcus stopped walking and turned to look back at the grand, historic manor. The brass plaque by the entrance shone brilliantly in the afternoon sun: The Vance-Evelyn Foundation: Built on Truth, Sustained by Love.

"Penny for your thoughts, Mr. Vance," Evelyn teased softly, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Marcus looked down at her, a profound sense of peace washing over him. He thought of the cold marble floor at O'Hare International Airport six years ago—the mechanical delay, the cursed flight to Boston, the moment he thought his life was falling apart. If that plane had taken off on time, he would still be a ruthless corporate titan trapped in a gilded cage of lies, wealth, and isolation.

The delay hadn't ruined his career. It had saved his soul.

"I was just thinking," Marcus smiled, pulling Evelyn closer against his side as the sound of their sons' laughter echoed across the lawn, "that missing that flight was the best thing that ever happened to me."

Evelyn laughed, a bright, melodic sound that chased away the last lingering shadows of the past.

"Come on," she whispered, tugging his hand. "Let's go home."
