Chapter 6 - ASHES AND BLUEPRINTS

By evening, the news had exploded across every major financial network and social media platform in the country.
“VANCE EMPIRE IN TURMOIL: CEO MARCUS VANCE PURGES BOARD, FEDERAL AGENTS ARREST EX-EXECUTIVE HARRISON VANCE AMID BLACKMAIL SCANDAL.”
The headlines flashed across the flat-screen TV in the penthouse living room, but Marcus wasn't watching. He sat on the floor with Leo and Liam, building an impossibly tall tower out of wooden blocks while Evelyn watched from the sofa, a gentle, disbelieving smile playing on her lips.
The boys squealed with delight as the block tower came crashing down, scattering wooden pieces across the Persian rug.
"Again! Again!" Liam yelled, clapping his hands.
Marcus laughed—a genuine, deep, unburdened laugh he hadn't experienced in six years. He looked up at Evelyn, their eyes meeting across the room.
"Are you okay?" Marcus asked softly, crawling over to sit beside her on the sofa.
"I feel like I'm waking up from a six-year nightmare," Evelyn whispered, resting her head against his shoulder. "I kept telling myself I was doing the right thing by staying away, by protecting them from the toxicity of this world. But I missed you every single day, Marcus."
"We have a lot of lost time to make up for," Marcus said, taking her hand and interlocking his fingers with hers. "Starting tomorrow, I’m stepping down as CEO of Vance Holdings for six months. I’m restructuring the entire corporate charter, turning our hotel chain into a charitable trust, and setting up a permanent foundation for displaced mothers and children—named after you."
May you like
Evelyn looked at him, her eyes shining. "You don't have to do all that, Marcus."
"I want to," he said firmly. "My family built their empire on lies, extortion, and cruelty. I'm going to rebuild it on truth, family, and redemption."
