Marcus pulled a blank, leather-bound journal toward him across the mahogany surface. For years, he had filled similar journals with financial ledgers, acquisition strategies, and corporate blueprints.

He didn't write about hotels, stocks, or lawsuits. Instead, his hand moved smoothly across the blank paper, beginning a new kind of record—a history of real life, of survival, and of the family he had fought so desperately to reclaim.
