Chapter 14 - The Final ConfessionAs the trial reached its climax, the prosecution played the final piece of digital evidence recovered from the decrypted servers—a video file recorded inside Harold Bennett’s private office just days before my arrest.

The courtroom monitors flickered to life.

There was Harold, swirling a glass of scotch, laughing with Vanessa as they reviewed the final documents transferring my remaining personal assets into their syndicate accounts.

“Edward is completely finished,” Harold said on the screen, his face twisted in smug arrogance. “By the time the feds finish auditing Calloway Enterprises, he’ll be lucky to afford a park bench. And if he makes any noise, we’ll make sure the media paints him as the mastermind.”

In the gallery, several former investors who had once refused to return my phone calls covered their faces in shame.

Vanessa let out a strangled sob, burying her face in her hands as the courtroom speakers broadcast her own voice plotting to strip away our home, our memories, and my dignity.

The jury didn't even need to deliberate for two hours.

When the foreperson stood up to read the verdict, the words cut through the heavy air like a razor: “Guilty on all counts. Wire fraud, money laundering, corporate conspiracy, and extortion.”

Harold slumped forward, his head hitting the defense table with a dull thud. Vanessa began to weep uncontrollably as federal marshals stepped forward, their heavy hands resting firmly on their shoulders.
