Chapter 15 - The Offer on the TableThree days after the guilty verdicts shook the financial world, I stood on the sprawling balcony of my Miami mansion, watching the sunset paint the horizon in shades of violet and gold.

A sleek black town car pulled up my driveway. Out stepped Arthur Pendelton, the legendary managing partner of Pendelton & Associates—the most cutthroat, elite corporate restructuring firm on the East Coast.

Pendelton walked up the front steps, and I met him at the double doors.

"Edward," Pendelton said, extending a hand with genuine, hard-earned respect. "It's good to see you standing tall. The financial community has been buzzing about your testimony."

"Come in, Arthur," I said, shaking his hand firmly. "To what do I owe the honor? Are you here to buy the ruins or offer me a loan?"

We walked into my study, where Pendelton sat down and placed a heavy leather folder on the desk.

"Neither, Edward," Pendelton said, smiling slightly. "I’m here to offer you the CEO position at Vanguard Global Infrastructure. We're launching a massive multi-billion-dollar urban renewal initiative across the southern states, and we need someone who has stared into the abyss of corporate corruption and lived to tell the tale."

I stared at the contract inside the folder. The numbers were staggering—a salary and equity package that would rebuild my fortune twice over within five years.

"Vanguard?" I murmured. "That’s one of the largest development firms in the world."

"And you are the only man with the moral clarity to lead it," Pendelton said firmly. "What do you say, Edward? Are you ready to build again?"
