Chapter 10 - The Last KnockSix months after the trial, the mansion was peaceful. The grand marble floors gleamed under the afternoon sun, free of the ghosts of betrayal and greed.

I was sitting in my study, reviewing the final architectural blueprints for the new community center, when the front doorbell chimed. Not the violent, pounding battering ram of police boots from months ago, but a gentle, rhythmic chime.

I walked through the foyer and pulled the heavy oak door open.

Standing on the porch was a middle-aged woman in a simple gray coat, holding a small leatherbound ledger that looked impossibly old. Her eyes were sharp, carrying the exact same piercing intelligence I had grown to know so well.

"Can I help you?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

The woman smiled warmly. "Good afternoon, Mr. Calloway. My name is Elena. I was sent by Dr. Rosa Martinez."

My heart skipped a beat. I stepped aside, holding the door wide open. "Please, come in. Rosa is in the kitchen."

As Elena stepped across the threshold, she glanced around the magnificent foyer before looking back at me with a knowing glint in her eye.

"Tell me, Mr. Calloway," Elena said softly, stepping onto the marble floor. "Are there any more secrets hiding in your guest room?"

I laughed—a real, rich, unburdened laugh that echoed through the high ceilings of my restored home.

"Only one," I replied, gesturing toward the back hallway. "And she's currently making coffee."
