Chapter 12 - The Ghost in the MachineTwo weeks later, the federal prosecutor’s office called an emergency briefing. The trial of Harold Bennett and Vanessa Calloway was scheduled to begin in the Southern District of Florida, but new evidence had blown the scope of the case wide open.

Aria Chen sat across from me in my home study, her laptop open, displaying a chaotic web of encrypted financial transactions.
"We tried to access the main server seized from Vanessa’s holding company," Aria explained, tapping her stylus against the screen. "It’s protected by a military-grade biometric firewall. None of our cyber forensics experts can crack it without erasing the data."
I looked over at Rosa, who was quietly dusting the bookshelf nearby. She didn't look up, but a faint, almost imperceptible smile touched the corners of her mouth.
"Rosa," I said, leaning back in my leather chair. "Do you know anything about this firewall?"
Rosa stopped dusting, turned around slowly, and wiped her hands on her apron. "Swiss banking security protocols of 2018 use a secondary cryptographic key based on vocal harmonic frequency, Mr. Calloway. They designed it specifically to lock out standard federal algorithms."
Aria stared at her, dumbfounded. "How could you possibly know that?"
Rosa walked over to the desk, reached out with a steady, unhesitating finger, and typed a twelve-digit alphanumeric sequence directly onto Aria's keyboard, followed by a specific acoustic pitch into the laptop's microphone.
BEEP.
The crimson security wall on the screen instantly dissolved into a cascading waterfall of green code. Every hidden file, offshore ledger, and real-time communication log flooded the display.

Aria’s jaw dropped. "Who... what security clearance did you actually hold in Zurich, Rosa?"
Rosa calmly picked up her feather duster and went back to work. "Let’s just say, Miss Chen, I used to clean up much bigger messes than this."
