Chapter 6 - The Fall of the ConspiratorsBefore Harold could reply, the heavy glass doors of the Biltmore ballroom swung open. But it wasn't hotel security stepping out.

It was a line of federal marshals in dark suits, flanked by Miami-Dade police officers. At their head walked Aria Chen, holding a thick sheaf of federal arrest warrants stamped with the federal seal.

Cameras flashed instantly, blindingly. Reporters who had spent the last week dragging my name through the mud suddenly pivoted their lenses toward the new center of gravity.

"Harold Bennett?" Aria called out, her voice cutting sharply through the courtyard silence. "And Vanessa Calloway?"

Harold tried to step backward into the crowd, but two federal marshals blocked his path. "This is an outrage! I am a candidate for City Council! I demand to speak to the Chief of Police!"

"You can speak to a federal magistrate instead," Aria said coldly, holding up the warrants. "You are being placed under arrest for wire fraud, money laundering, corporate espionage, and the systematic embezzlement of over forty-two million dollars from Calloway Enterprises."

Vanessa let out a sharp, choked gasp, her knees buckling slightly as the cold metal cuffs clicked around her wrists. "No! This is a mistake! My husband—Edward framed us! Look at him!" She shrieked, pointing a trembling, jeweled finger at me. "He had the money in his house!"

"Actually, Mrs. Calloway," a calm, familiar voice spoke from behind the line of officers.

Rosa stepped forward. She was wearing her usual faded blue dress, her gray-streaked hair pinned neatly back, but her posture was that of a queen reclaiming her throne. She held a sleek, encrypted laptop in her hands.

"The money in the house was yours, transferred from your offshore account in the Bahamas at 3:14 AM last Tuesday," Rosa said, her voice carrying an absolute, terrifying clarity. "Just like the wire transfers you and Mr. Bennett split after liquidating the Texas development funds."

Harold stared at Rosa, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Who... who the hell are you?"

Rosa smiled faintly. "Just someone who knows how to clean up trash."
